Fred Kersley has won more Perth Drivers Championships than any other – 17 of them and backed up by 14 trainer’s titles he is WA’s most decorated horseman.
In 1988 he recorded an Australian record 136 metro winners. His race wins have include 3 WA Pacing Cups as a trainer and two as a driver, 4 WA Derbies, 10 Interdom heats and was runner up twice in finals, one of those on the champion Pure Steel, the best pacer he has trained.
In a radical move he converted to thoroughbred racing in 1989 and achieved more fame as trainer of superstar thoroughbred Northerly.
He was awared the Australian Harness Distinguised National Service Award in 1993 and 2002 he was inducted into the WA Instititute of Sport Hall of Champions
