With regular reinsman Chris Alford in the sulky for trainer David Aiken, Lennytheshark starting from the extreme draw was off and running as soon as the start was effected to cross Vinny Chase entering the straight on the first occasion. Trained at the new Myrniong complex of Greg & Jess Sugars by Greg’s father Ross, Shady Secret an easy winner of her heat held at Cranbourne on November 2, began speedily from gate four to lead virtually throughout, defeating Nitro Nikky (gate two) which trailed by six metres in a mile rate of 1-56.3. Kevin Riseley will be heading across the Nullabor for the commencement of the Inter Dominion full of confidence as he shares in the ownership of the first two favourites – Lennytheshark and Lazarus.

Whilst Lennytheshark rounded off his preparation with success in the Yarra Valley Cup Lazarus a 5Y0 Bettors Delight - Bethany entire was a dominant victor of last Tuesday’s $800,000 (Group 1) Christchurch Casino New Zealand Cup for the second year in succession. Trained by the “All Stars” combination of Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen, Lazarus raced in partnership with Phil and Glenys Kennard and Trevor Casey began with plenty of zest from barrier six to assume control from stablemate Picccadilly Princess shortly after the start of the 3200 metre feature and once there, the race was virtually over with Lazarus coasting along without a worry in the world. Given his head on turning, Lazarus (last half mile 54.4 – quarter 27.3) scored by an untouched 5 ¾ lengths in a gross time of 3-55 (mile rate 1-58) from Jacks Legend off a three wide trail last lap, with Tiger Tara a gigantic third ¾ of a length back after racing in the open and going off stride halfway along the back straight when jumping an object on the track before coming again in the straight.

When luck’s running hot, everything seems to fall into place as Kevin Riseley will testify as another horse which he has a share in – Ultimate Machete snared the $234,000 Woodlands Stud Free For All at Addington on Friday. Trained by the All Stars team, Ultimate Machete driven by Natalie Rasmussen sat parked outside Tiger Tara for most of the 1950 metre trip, winning by a neck from the leader, with Jacks Legend a nose away in third place after trailing the leader and using the sprint lane.
