June Winning Post

1st June: Club member Bruce Morgan received a tonic after Shadow Play - Lucky Bonus gelding Bonus Play made his rivals look second rate in the North Central Review 3Y0 Pace over 2180 metres at Kilmore. Driven by John Caldow and starting inside the second line was quickly away from the marker line to go forward and arrest the lead away from Cullens Legend. Careering away over the concluding stages, Bonus Play scored untouched by 10.6 metres from Our Uncle Alan which raced in the open, with Cullens Legend 2.3 metres back in third place. The mile rate 2-00.9. Bruce has just returned home after suffering a stroke a few weeks back, but fortunately is making steady progress. Cub stalwart Stan Nedwell also holds a share in the horse.

7th June: Father Brian Glasheen’s 4Y0 home bred Courage Under Fire - Bit Of A Gem mare Be Not Afraid landed the 1690 metre HRTC Bendigo Concessional Drivers Pace for C0 class at Maryborough. Trained at Bacchus Marsh by Phil Chircop, Be Not Afraid driven by Western District (Scotts Creek) junior Xavier O’Connor after drawing perfectly in the pole, led throughout to win in a breeze 8.8 metres in advance of Lick My Lips which trailed in a rate of 2-00.2. Apollon was third 3.7 metres back off a mid-field trip.

Rob Molloy & Duncan McPherson were also winners at Maryborough when their Yeild Boko - Aldebaran Queenie filly Flyin Around trained at Daylesford by Anne-Maree Conroy and driven by brother Glenn came from last to greet the judge in the Talbot Bowling Club 3Y0 Vicbred Trotters Mobile over 2190 metres, accounting for Mar Pacifico and Godofthunder in a rate of 2-01.8 and margins of 2.6 by 5.3 metres.

8th June: Rob Merola was victorious at Tabcorp Park Melton, when ex-Kiwi Somebeachsomewhere - Star Art gelding Beach Skipper scored in the 1720 metre C1 class TAB Multiplier Pace. Trained and driven by Lance Justice, Beach Skipper spent most of the race 3 back the markers after starting inside the second line trailing pole marker Juliustigres who handed up to the heavily backed Emelia On Fire. Extricated away from the marker to be one/one in the last lap, Beach Skipper when eased three wide approaching the final bend ran home strongly to gain the day by 3.8 metres over a death-seating Fly Cheval and Juliustigres along the sprint lane who was a nose away in third place. The mile rate 1-56.4.

9th June: Stan Nedwell and Bruce Morgan’s highly promising Shadow Play - Lucky Bonus gelding Bonus Play showed what he is made of with a brilliant performance to capture the Presidents race - $10,000 J & A Mazzetti Painting Bendigo Guineas. With John Caldow in the sulky, Bonus Play assumed control mid-race and despite racing greenly at times was much too strong for his rivals, accounting for Alpha Charlie which led out before trailing, then using the sprint lane to no avail to be beaten by 2.4 metres in a rate of 1-56.5. Playing It Cool was third 6.6 metres back after following the pair.

13th June: At Tabcorp Park Melton the 4Y0 Bacardi Lindy - Paige Olivia gelding The Paigeboy bred and raced by club member Graeme Rayner was a tough winner of thetrots.com.au Trotters Mobile for TR0 class over 1720 metres. Trained at Hopetoun Park by Ross Sugars and driven by daughter Kylie, The Paigeboy raced exposed for the majority of the journey outside the leader Bridie Okane, but drew clear over the concluding stages to score by 7.1 metres from Coco Lombo (three back the markers) and Bridie Okane who was 3.8 metres back in third place. The mile rate 2-03.6.

Club members & HRV duo Peter Watkinson and Dale Monteith were also winners at Melton when their Art Major - Sarah Miss filly Sahara Tiger broke her maiden status at start number six by taking the 1720 metre Westside Talent 2Y0 Pace. Trained at Drouin by Gary and Debbie Quinlan, Sarah Tiger led out from the pole before allowing Elsa Belle to cross and enjoy the run of the race. Using the sprint lane, Sarah Tiger ran home nicely to register a 1.4 metre margin over Elsa Bell, with Hes An Artist a half head away third after racing without cover.

14th June: Kevin Riseley’s home bred Muscle Hill - Right Interest filly She Is The One trained at Shepparton by Patrick Ryan and driven by Chris Alford led throughout to land the 2190 metre Seelite Windows & Doors 3Y0 Trotters Mobile at Maryborough by 1.7 metres in advance of My Little Comet which trailed using the sprint lane to get close, with Imsettogo 5.5 metres back in third place after following the pair.

16th June: John Hawke tasted success at Tabcorp Park Melton when his ex-Kiwi Bettors Delight - Reklaw 4Y0 gelding Rishi trained and driven by Lance Justice leading throughout to prevail by a nose in the M0 class Allied Express Pace over 2240 metres in a 1-58 rate over Artful Christian and Hurricane Stride.

Rob Molloy & Duncan McPherson were winners again with their filly Flyin Around trained by Anne-Maree Conroy and driven by brother Glen peeled off the back of the long odds-on favourite Aleppo Jewel on straightening to score by 7.9 metres in 2-04.1, with Fling About 10.3 metres away in third place after trailing the pair.

22nd June: Peter Judd’s Benstud Standardbreds snared the the Tankard Dental Pace for C1 class over 2190 metres at Mildura with Rock N Roll Heaven - Hectic mare She Envy. Trained in Adelaide by Justin Brewin and driven by son Jayden, She Envy led throughout, winning by 4.3 metres from Sirbenjaminbutton and Dromana Beach in 2-01.1.

29th June: John Dorrington’s home bred 7Y0 Courage Under Fire - Pareen gelding Smokey Quartz was a brilliant winner of the 2140 metre ABS Air Conditioning Services Pace for C6 or better class at Bankstown (NSW). Trained by KerryAnn Turner and driven by partner Robbie Morris, Smokey Quartz came from last at the bell with a sweeping run out wide to gain the day by 1-9 metres in a rate of 2-00.9 from Red Vee Hanover and The Golden Cross.

30th June: The Kilmore meeting was terrific for club members Bruce Morgan, Stan Nedwell and Emmy Mazzetti – all sharing in winners. Bruce as a trainer and both Stan and Emmy as owners.

The Bob Cain Memorial 3Y0 Pace over 1690 metres saw possible future top liner Bonus Play Shadow Play - Lucky Bonus victorious. Raced by Stan in partnership with wife Deidre and Val Morgan, Bonus Play (gate 6) was eased to the rear by John Caldow as Chiasso (gate 4) led. Gradually moving forward three wide in the last lap, Bonus Play cruised to the leaders on straightening, putting the race beyond doubt in a couple of strides to win by 3.9 metres in an unextended 1-57.7. Shawami Lass (one/one)ran home well for second, with a death-seating Jilliby Madonna third.

Silent Growl (John Caldow) a 5Y0 Shadow Play - Swanline mare raced by Emmy in partnership by Val Morgan led throughout from the pole in the 2180 metres C1 class Bendigo Club Pace to prevail by a half head only in 2-03.1 over I Hope I Can which trailed and Village Skipper (one/one) who was 10.1 metres back in third place. The mile rate 2-03.1.

The Jet Roofing Pace for R0 class over 1690 metres saw Bonza Guy also raced by Stan and Deidre Nedwell the victor for Maree and John Caldow in a rate of 2-00.7. Pouncing on the lead from gate three, Bonza Guy a 4Y0 gelded son of Union Guy and Vital Lady who Val Morgan holds a share of was given an easy time before kicking clear on straightening to score by 3.1 metres from Yourgottabelucky (three back the markers) and Make Me Happy which followed the leader, finishing six metres in arrears of the runner up.
