John Tapp became a race calling legend after 50 years and calling over 50,000 races with his final call being made in 1998. He has continued to work in the media for Sky Racing, hosting harness magazine show “In The Gig” and doing feature stories and interviews with major thoroughbred players on “Inside Racing”.
He was awarded an Order of Australia medal in 1996 for “service to horse sports and charitable compere and fundraiser”. He was bestowed the title of Australia Post Legend when he was immortalised in a stamp series in 2007
Passionate about harness racing John Tapp has been an accomplished harness racing trainer for many years and continues on in that role. His best pacer Chariot King won thirty races and including the 2009 Bathurst Gold Crown and 2010 NSW Breeders Challenge among those victories.
